For several years, Norine Ford thought about opening a children’s clothing store to address the market demand for this type of retail outlet in the Bay Roberts/Carbonear area. After a few setbacks and when the right timing presented itself, Norine was able to take advantage of the Self Employment Benefit (SEB) program and opened Just 4 Kids in Carbonear in January of 2009. In May of that year, Norine was assisted by a SEED Capital loan to help increase inventory and to assist with the purchase of point-of-sale computer equipment.
Just 4 Kids specializes in brand name children’s clothing and accessories. The store caters to all ages from newborn to late teens. Eventually Norine plans on introducing options for gently used brand name clothing and baby accessories such as strollers and chairs etc.
To date, the retail outlet’s sales are exceeding projections and Norine is optimistic the store will grow to the point where she will be able to move into expanded premises in the very near future. In addition to employing herself full-time, Norine also employs one other person on a part-time basis.
